Interfacing

Data conversion, acquisition and storage is not much use without some method of getting the information out. Client Software can assist in the development of both the interface with the user and with a PC.

User Interface

This is usually achieved with controls and a display. The controls can be in the form of buttons, switches or a keypad, all of which can be interfaced directly to the microcontroller. Little or no external circuitry should be needed in addition to the controls themselves.

The display can be anything from simple flashing LED's, through simple Alphanumeric LCD to a more advanced full graphic LCD. The choice is usually set by the user needs and the cost.

PC Interface

Connection to the PC will usually be by RS232 or USB. The decision will be based on the speed requirements and the cost. USB gives a faster transfer rate but increases the development and build costs.

An instrument developed by Client Software will be provided with a robust and well documented communications protocol. Client Software can also provide the software for the download, analysis and presentation of the data - see our PC Software section for more information.
